Friday Faves + Raves

Happy Friday!!

This weeks Fave and Rave goes to: Continuing Education.

I particularly admire and appreciate people who share their knowledge. And I really love those who explain things in the simplest way. I studied photography in college and would not trade the experience, but I've learned more about portrait and wedding photography in the last year from these awesome people...

CreativeLIVE
CL brings in industry leaders to teach workshops and streams them on the internet live from Seattle. For FREE! Considering that most of these workshops would cost well over $1,000 to attend, free is AhMazing. Also, if you miss a workshop (or want to watch it again) you can buy them for $79-$149.

Zach and Jody Gray
Y'all know I love me some Z&J. If I could marry their brand I'd do it. Twice.
Every Tuesday they post photography/business tips and tricks on their blog. Tuesday is now my favorite day of the week!

Jasmine Star
Jasmine is the Don Draper of photography blogging. Minus the smoking, drinking, womanizing and stolen identity. She talks to the internet like it's her best friend from grade school and when she talks about photography it's magic. She makes me believe I can be a rock star too :)

Melissa Jill
If Jasmine's Don Draper, then Melissa would be... someone equally incredible at what they do. This summer MJ wrote a 13 part series on using flash. Now she's digging into a new series on lenses. If you're the type that likes to see the exact settings used to create an image, you'll love her blog.

Juan Pena
Juan is a fellow Gray Photography Workshop alum. He recently launched a blog for photographers where he shares his experiences (especially when it comes to gear). He is bananas awesome and writes just like he talks. He breaks down all the confusing, technical fanciness into something that actually makes sense.

This only scratches the surface of bookmarked blogs for me. Where do you go to get your learn on?

Pike Road, Alabama | The Oaks Plantation Wedding: Laura + Justin

It was one of those classic Alabama summer days. The blue sky, decorated with puffy white clouds, opened for an aptly timed afternoon shower just before Justin and Laura said 'I Do' in a gorgeous outdoor ceremony at The Oaks Plantation in Pike Road. The combination of the setting and Laura's color pallet were pure perfection. Quite like she and Justin :)

Laura is a photographer and she filled her day with detail after detail. Much to my elation! Maybe it's because I've worked with Laura and know her outside of her being a bride, but I her wedding is definitely a favorite!

Time for the First Look. So much love and happiness!

Congratulations Laura and Justin!!

Friday Faves + Raves: Fall Edition

Happy Friday!!

Faves: Fall is my favorite

Y'all know how I feel about pumpkin spice lattes... obsessed is probably the word you're looking for. If you are what you eat then I'd happily turn into one :) Still, they are just one of a hundred reasons I love Fall and I seem to find new reasons every year.

My new Fall fave comes from Bath & Body Works. I could bathe in this candle.

What is your Fall Fave?

Rave: 48 Days To the Work You Love

I'll be blogging about this one soon so I'll keep my thoughts short today and just say it's brilliant!!
I'm only on day 17 and am in love with this book. Have you read it?

One Point Five

Remember when being half an age was a big deal? Like when your Mom told someone how old you were, 'she's six' and you corrected her saying, 'I'm six and a half'. Well, everything old is new again... Happy 1.5 to my little Olive!

You look less like a baby every minute.
You like going 'side' to check the mail every day. (Even on Sunday)
You love reading 'ahbook' and making animal noises.
You stick your tongue out when I ask you what sound a lizard makes.
Your Dad and I are still amazed to see you walking.

Tuscaloosa, AL Wedding: Lindsey + Tyler

"I am thrilled to be shooting a wedding on the campus of my alma mater this weekend. It's definitely a full circle moment."

That was the best I could do to sum up my feelings in 140 characters or less. I'm not sure that 'trilled' was the right word. I don't think there is a word to describe how it felt. I was shooting in the shadow of my freshman dorm... literally yards away from the sorority house I lived in for 3 years while studying photography. Carrying my gear to the church I thought about how many times I'd lugged my camera and portfolio across the quad to class. I thought about how I missed it, but how satisfying it was to be doing it professionally. A full circle moment it was indeed.

I LOVED Lindsey's bridals and I was really excited to see what her wedding had in store. She and Tyler said 'I Do' at the beautiful Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

One of the sweetest moments during a first look. Just after seeing each other Lindsey and Tyler joined in prayer and all their 'nerves' melted away.

Mr & Mrs Odle!!

.

Congratulations Lindsey and Tyler!  I wish you all the blessings that come with a happy marriage.
